My WWOOF experience in Garlieston, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, was an immersive journey into rural life that provided me with valuable hands-on skills and a deep appreciation for sustainable living practices. Working closely with a local family, I engaged in various tasks that not only contributed to their daily operations but also enhanced my personal and professional growth.
Skills Developed
1. Wood Processing
- Handled approximately 26 tons of wood for winter use.
- Processed logs into smaller sections, mirroring industrial edging and trimming processes.
- Implemented proper wood stacking and storage techniques for optimal drying and preservation.
2. Renovation and Maintenance
- Completed a comprehensive fuel tank renovation by meticulously removing old paint and rust.
- Renovated a stove using specialized techniques to restore its functionality.
- Performed thorough cleaning and degreasing tasks to ensure quality results.
3. Cultural Immersion and Exploration
- Explored significant monuments and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
- Gained a deep appreciation for Scottish history, art, and cultural heritage.
